Folker Stachetzki’s answer to the question: what developments in the textile industry make you optimistic about 2025?
Digital direct-to-garment (DTG) printing will make significant progress in 2025, particularly in the areas of sustainability and print-on-demand. The technology-related conservation of resources is a key advantage: DTG printing requires significantly less water than other printing processes and new, water-based inks considerably reduce the environmental impact. Print-on-demand is proving to be a game changer for the industry: products are now only manufactured to order, avoiding overproduction and waste. Companies can minimise their stock levels and at the same time react flexibly to market trends and individual customer requirements. This is not only economically but also ecologically advantageous.
DTG printing supports the increasing demand for individualisation and enables personalised designs in high quality, even in small quantities. At the same time, production remains local and close to the customer, which reduces transport distances. In addition, the integration of automation opens up new possibilities. Automated workflows optimise processes from order to delivery, while AI-based systems facilitate colour management and material adjustments. This increases efficiency and minimises errors. This synergy of sustainability, flexibility and resource conservation makes digital textile printing a pioneering solution that harmonises economic and ecological requirements.
