30/01/2026 – Operations Continue Without Restrictions
Sympatex Initiates Restructuring
The Munich-based functional specialist Sympatex Technologies aims to reposition itself as part of an insolvency proceeding. Operations are continuing, and wages and salaries are secured.
On January 22, 2026, Sympatex Technologies GmbH filed for insolvency due to insolvency at the Munich District Court. The court ordered preliminary insolvency administration and appointed attorney Axel W. Bierbach from the law firm Müller Heydenreich Bierbach & Kollegen as preliminary insolvency administrator. The parent company Smart Solutions Holding GmbH has also filed for insolvency.
Expertise and now-how
According to the company, Sympatex‘s operational business activities are continuing without any restrictions. Customer orders and ongoing projects will be executed as planned. The approximately 70 employees, along with customers and suppliers, have been informed about the situation. Wages and salaries are secured until the end of March 2026 through insolvency payments from the Federal Employment Agency. Managing Director Kim Scholze, who has been in office since September 2025, views the process as an opportunity for a structured reorientation. Scholze emphasized that the insolvency procedure creates a framework for restructuring the company through a structured rehabilitation process. The aim is to preserve technological expertise and employee know-how while developing a sustainable solution for the future.
Technologically Strong in the Sustainability Segment
Since 1986, Sympatex has been developing and producing pore-free, PFAS-free polyester membranes for clothing, footwear, workwear, personal protective equipment, and technical applications. The membranes are waterproof, breathable, elastic, and recyclable. Selected variants contain bio-based components. The company collaborates internationally with brand, industry, and development partners.
Experienced Insolvency Administrator
Attorney Axel W. Bierbach is considered an experienced restructuring expert with industry knowledge. In the past, he has overseen insolvency proceedings in the textile and sportswear sectors, including those of Planet Sports and SportScheck. The law firm Müller Heydenreich Bierbach & Kollegen specializes in restructuring and insolvency administration, handling cases in numerous district courts in Bavaria and Thuringia.
