On 3 December 2026, the Sächsisches Textilforschungsinstitut (STFI) will host a themed day in Chemnitz focused on climate protection and the environment. Under the motto “Design meets Technology”, the event brings together textile research, practical applications and creative work. The programme is free to attend and takes place at the STFI.

Research in the Textile LAB

At the centre is the new Textile LAB Professional. Participants will gain insight into the research and development environment and see modern textile technologies, demonstrators and practical applications. Machine demonstrations are also planned. The programme is intended to show how scientific questions can lead to concrete solutions for industrial practice.

Talks will address current developments in sustainable materials, climate protection and innovative manufacturing technologies. Applications for green cities and natural fibres for lightweight construction are also on the agenda. For textile businesses, the programme connects material topics with manufacturing technologies and practical applications.

Design and exchange

Works by the Faculty of Applied Arts Schneeberg at WHZ Zwickau and Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle will bring creative perspectives on materials, technology and design. The works highlight the inspiration that can emerge from the interplay between textile research and creative development. Artistic student projects add a design perspective alongside the technical demonstrations and specialist talks.

The day also provides space for personal exchange and networking. Experts from academia, industry and the creative sector will meet to discuss developments, share experiences and make new contacts.
