The renting of clothes and textiles is by no means a new concept. For ages, costume rental companies have been doing their business with the short-term, fee-based leasing of exclusive pieces for weddings, balls, costume festivals, events etc. Another industry that has specialised in the rental of clothing since the late 1950s is textile rental service. Many companies offer professional and protective clothing, business wear and company clothing for rent.

Comparable service offerings are now expanding to other areas of the clothing market. The internet in particular plays a decisive role in this development. Existing software solutions enable a relatively straightforward opening of online sales rooms, where detailed information on each model, numerous styling tips and trendy combination options are available – 24/7.
