Fibre manufacturer Trevira, based in Germany’s Bobingen, has revealed that its special polyester products have delivered a solid and pleasing performance. Sales in 2014 roughly matched the previous year’s levels of approximately EUR 250m. “The European economy is still struggling. Even so, we have seen a growth in exports outside Europe, a segment that has been expanding steadily in recent years,” the company continued. Restructuring measures within the company reportedly improved profitability still further last year, with large investments made in process optimisation, infrastructure and machinery at both production sites in Bobingen and Guben.

In 2014, the company saw sales volumes for flame-retardant fibres climb by around 4% to 5% against the year before, both in the traditional textiles segment and in technical applications (nonwovens). Within the nonwovens segment, the company witnessed a significant rise in sales volumes for its spun-dyed products.

The flame-retardant filament business remained stable in 2014, revealing a marginal increase on the year before. “The many new Trevira CS developments allow us to look to the new year optimistically,” it was stated. Textiles incorporating the Trevira low-melt fibres, which are predominantly used in the fields of sun protection and acoustics, are likewise performing well.
