Albaad is certified climate neutral
Albaad is the first wet wipe manufacturer in Germany to be certified as climate-neutral and launches products made from 100 percent recycled material.
Another step towards sustainability: Albaad Deutschland GmbH compensates the CO2 footprint of its production and starts the year 2021 climate-neutral. In order to reduce emissions, the Westphalian company relies for example on 100 percent green electricity, LED lighting, e-mobility and climate-friendly heating solutions. Albaad compensates for unavoidable CO2 emissions through a reforestation project in Peru via the climate protection organization ClimatePartner.
Wolfgang Tenbusch, CEO of Albaad Deutschland:
“Environmental protection is one of the core topics at Albaad. As the first climate-neutral company in the wet wipes market, we want to set a good example and hope that other companies will follow us.”
With its certification as a climate-neutral company by ClimateParner, Albaad proves that sustainability and growth are not mutually exclusive. The company has been growing successfully in the wet wipes market for years and acts sustainably in this process.
Reduce, compensate and protect
The continental European market leader for wet wipes has been able to reduce most emissions by switching to green electricity as well as to LED lighting and an environmentally friendly heating system. In addition, electric vehicles are being used in Albaad’s company fleet. The ecological and economic energy-saving potential in the production is monitored by regular energy audits. In addition, the manufacturer invests in a forest protection project in Peru – this compensates for the remaining emissions calculated by ClimateParner. With the help of Albaad and other companies, the families obtain land rights in the 300,000-hectare Amazon region and thus sustainable sources of income, for example through the cultivation of Brazil nuts.
Aim: completely recyclable products
“The certification of ClimatePartner was just the beginning. Our current focus is on special products, whose recycled content is to be increased to up to 100 percent,” Tenbusch explains. Development has been completed and the products will be on the market in 2021. Under the Hydrofinde brand, Albaad had already launched a nonwoven in 2019 that is not only certified according to the strict criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – the biodegradable material also meets all three internationally recognized flushability standards. This means that wet toilet paper made from Hydrofine nonwoven can be flushed down the toilet and then dissolve into its natural fiber components.
With 250 million packs produced annually, Albaad Deutschland GmbH is the continental European market leader for wet wipes and moist toilet paper. The company, based in Ochtrup, Münsterland, supplies numerous retail chains, brand manufacturers and drugstores. In addition to moist toilet paper, its product portfolio also includes wet wipes for household cleaning, cosmetics, body care and baby care, as well as medical applications. The company is part of the Albaad Group, headquartered in Tel Aviv. In 2002, the Albaad Group acquired the Feucht-Hygiene-Werk GmbH (FHW) in Ochtrup and incorporated it as Albaad Deutschland GmbH. The group has further subsidiaries in the USA, the Netherlands and Poland. With 480 employees, Albaad Deutschland GmbH generates sales of around 200 million euros (fiscal year 2017) and thus contributes a large part to the Albaad Group's consolidated earnings of 500 million euros.
