The groundbreaking tool will be launched from bluesign technologies together with the leaders of the chemicals industry. This is a clear answer to increasing demand for better resource utilization through optimized process management in the textile production, including efficient chemical management. This is a collaborative effort of the responsible industry and will support the basic concerns and demands of NGO’s, brands and retailers.

It is already feasible to achieve nearly all effects in the textile area without any compromise in performance by selecting from approx. 6'000 chemicals in the 'bluesign bluefinder' - a chemical data base (positive list). And in the same time we meet the demands of the brands regarding their Restricted Substance Lists.

The new resource tool is a further milestone in textile finishing. It offers the unique possibility to combine safe chemistry with best available technology (BAT) in textile processing. With that in place not only the most efficient processes can be chosen to generate massive resource savings but in the same time also the data base bluesign bluefinder can be used. With this new resource tool in place the responsible chemical industry responds to the basic concerns und requirements of NGO's, responsible brands and retailers and enables a significant next step to a more sustainable product. We emphasize the focus clearly on the biggest challenge of the textile industry - the resource productivity. With the new tool we can offer the processing industry dramatic savings.

The resource consumption in the textile supply chain is enormous, and is based on our experiences from screenings far away from BAT. In the textile industry reduction of use of water is worldwide possible by at least 50%. The access to fresh water, groundwater problems and availability of clean process water in the today's production countries as shown also regularly by NGO's, is acute as never before. The situation can be improved by optimization of process management in the textile production combined with an effective chemicals management only.

Peter Waeber, CEO bluesign:

"It is already feasible to achieve nearly all effects in the textile area without any compromise in performance by selecting from approx. 5’600 chemicals in the ‘bluesign bluefinder’ – a chemical data base (positive list). The new resource tool represents a next step to reach a significantly more sustainable product. Uniquely, with this tool it’s possible to work with chemical products of all bluesign chemical system partners. This allows the textile finishing industry to optimize their processes not only regarding harmful substances but at the same time also regarding resource consumption. This integrative step is a milestone in the history of textile processing and it will support the textile industry’s sustainability efforts to reduce the resource consumption dramatically."
