Accelerating circularity in the textile industry

Indorama Ventures, a global leader in sustainable petrochemicals, and Jiaren Chemical Recycling, a pioneer in chemical textile recycling, have announced a joint venture to tackle the textile waste crisis. This partnership combines Indorama’s extensive manufacturing footprint across Apac, Emea, and the Americas with Jiaren’s cutting-edge chemical recycling technology. Together, they aim to create a robust circular textile economy by unlocking up to 100,000 tonnes of recycled PET spinning capacity annually.

Jiaren’s advanced recycling process includes sourcing, sorting, de-colouring, and re-polymerising textile waste, enabling the production of high-quality recycled polyester fibres and yarns. This innovative approach ensures that brand owners can meet their climate targets while maintaining the performance standards expected by consumers.

Scaling sustainable solutions

Indorama Ventures is backing the partnership with a significant double-digit million-dollar equity investment in Jiaren’s recycling capacity. This financial commitment underscores the urgency of addressing the global textile waste problem and the need for collaborative efforts across the value chain. As Mr Diego Boeri, Executive President of Indorama Ventures’ Fibres business, emphasised, “Mismanaged textile waste and climate protection expectations cannot be solved by one company alone. Only together can we build circular business models.”

Jiaren Chemical Recycling, already one of the largest PET textile chemical recyclers globally, is expanding its capacity to meet growing demand. With a new production base capable of recycling 240,000 t of used textiles annually, Jiaren is set to significantly reduce reliance on virgin petrochemical resources while supporting the sustainable transformation of the textile industry.

A new era for textile sustainability

This partnership is poised to redefine global textile recycling by enhancing supply chain transparency and resilience. By providing brand owners with local sourcing hubs and innovative recycled materials, Indorama Ventures and Jiaren are paving the way for a more sustainable future. As the textile industry faces increasing pressure to adopt circular practices, this joint venture demonstrates the potential of collaboration and investment in technology to drive meaningful change. With regulatory approvals pending, the partnership is set to become a cornerstone in the global transition to a circular textile economy.
