Recyclable carpet systems enabled by Fasaloop

Zschimmer & Schwarz has introduced Fasaloop, a polymer-based coating technology designed to support recyclable constructions in artificial turf and carpet systems. By replacing conventional SBR-latex or polyurethane backings, the new approach enables mono-material designs that can be mechanically recycled at end of life.

Rethinking complex multi-material structures

Many carpet and turf products rely on composite layers that deliver stability but complicate separation for material recovery. Artificial turf, for example, commonly uses polyolefin fibres tufted into a polyolefin primary backing, combined with an SBR secondary layer to secure adhesion. According to the company, this structure becomes a barrier once products reach end of life because mechanical separation of the different components is challenging. Fasaloop addresses this by shifting to polyester- and polyolefin-based coating systems that align with the fibre and primary backing materials.

Origin within the group

The technology was initially developed by Lefatex GmbH, part of the Zschimmer & Schwarz Group. It is now being transferred into the broader production network of the company. This gives manufacturers access to a coating system supported by established production capacities and defined internal standards.

Two technology families

The portfolio currently comprises two approaches: Fasaloop PET for polyester-based carpet constructions and Fasaloop POD for polyolefin-based artificial turf. Both variants are designed to replace SBR-latex or polyurethane backings, as stated by the company, while maintaining the performance required for application-specific use. The aim is to enable coherent material combinations that can be processed through mechanical recycling systems without complex separation steps.

Designed for circularity

Zschimmer & Schwarz positions the development as a contribution to circular product concepts in the fibre and textile sector. The company’s Fiber & Textile Auxiliaries Division focuses on solutions for man-made fibres and textile applications, and views Fasaloop as a way for manufacturers to implement more resource-efficient designs without fundamental changes to existing production set-ups.

Fasaloop is an EU-registered trademark of Zschimmer & Schwarz. Further details on the technology and the division’s full product portfolio are available on the company’s website.
