The ADD International Textile Conference shown in pictures
textile network was able to experience exciting presentations, innovative approaches and lively discussions at the Aachen-Dresden-Denkendorf International Textile Conference in November. Here are our best pictures from the two days of the conference.

At the booth of the start-up Ekolution from Sweden, CBDO Carl Löwegren (left) and founder Remi Loren presented their insulation panels filled with hemp fibers. The hemp-based panels are used, for example, in a 20,000 square meter high-tech logistics center north of Stockholm. © Meisenbach

Martin Hoffmann, Head of Special Machines at Filacon Systems, demonstrates the operation of the TCWM sewing machine for composite materials, which was specially developed for sewing reinforced fibers. © Meisenbach

The reinforced fibers can be formed into shapes that closely resemble those of the final product, enabling the mass production of high-precision preforms with minimal waste. © Meisenbach

Over 100 scientific posters from 10 countries were submitted. Three of the poster presentations were honored with the Best Poster Award 2024. © Meisenbach

Sahra Pogrzeba from the IKK (Institute for Plastics and Circular Economy) at the University of Hanover gave an insightful presentation on the challenges and opportunities of mechanical recycling of mixed fabrics. In collaboration with industrial partners, her team has found a way to produce high-quality and ecologically sustainable plastic recyclates from textile and textile composites. © Meisenbach

At the Institute of Textile Technology (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University, Fabio Bußmann is researching bio-based woven geotextiles that are biodegradable and intended for temporary purposes. He explains that viscose fibers are best suited for this purpose and that these textiles could be used on construction sites, for example. © Meisenbach

During the breaks between the sessions, refreshments were provided and there was an opportunity to exchange ideas. © Meisenbach

In his presentation, Dieter Stellmach from the DITF presented simple tools for measuring sustainability in your own company, as well as training courses for textile companies to improve their circular economy. © Meisenbach

The Austrian plastics engineer Reinhold W. Lang has asked himself how the plastics industry can no longer be seen as a problem but as part of the solution in the context of sustainability. One of his suggestions is that instead of concentrating exclusively on recycling and combating fossil raw materials, the focus should also be on promoting “Cicular Carbon Management”. © Meisenbach

Visitors to the conference showed great interest in the stand of the smart texiles hub, a sister company of Born GmbH that specializes in developing smart textiles. Andrea Grácová, Prototyping Engineer (R&D), gave a comprehensive insight into the innovative solutions for medical applications, sports, safety and lifestyle. © Meisenbach

The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) was also represented with a stand. Dr. Michael Schwake and Verena Menz spoke enthusiastically about the current projects being funded by the DBU. These include, for example, the start-up Adotc, which aims to bring the sewing industry back to Europe with the help of fully automated sewing robots. © Meisenbach
