Automatic roving change and hybrid rovings

At Techtextil, Cetex will present a fully automated ARWeS roving changing system and a new type of process for the production of HYROV hybrid rovings.

Continuous production of continuous fibre-reinforced semi-finished products is a key success factor for establishing fibre-plastic composite (FRP) applications, as it minimises downtimes and process costs. In cooperation with Heberlein AG, based in Wattwil/CH (Hall 12.0, B11), Cetex has developed and manufactured an innovative system.

The ARWeS roving changing system enables the reproducible connection of the reinforcing fibres to each other in fully automatic plant operation without interrupting the production processes. The pneumatic splicing process swirls two rovings together using compressed air and cuts off the protruding ends at the same time. It is suitable for all available reinforcing fibres (e.g. glass, basalt, carbon fibres). The narrow shape of the splice joint is ideal for downstream processing and has a higher tensile strength compared to other joining technologies. An animation on the exhibition stand illustrates the basic principle and the advantages.

Using various material combinations and an animation of the plant, Cetex will also present a new type of process for the highly flexible, continuous production of HYROV hybrid rovings, which can be produced more cost-effectively and to a higher quality than with the conventional commingling process.
