Nano-Care Deutschland AG, an internationally leading specialist in the production of ready-to-use high-tech coatings and their precursors, is pleased to announce that it is soon to offer a groundbreaking coating system for water and oil repellency that is poised to redefine standards across the textile finishing industry.

The company took it upon itself to develop an alternative to the C8 fluorocarbon technology (C8-PFC), which will be banned in 2023 due to its emissions of PFOS and PFOA. Aiming to fill in the significant gap in the textile finishing market that will be created as a result of the abandonment of C8-PFC, and which is valued at hundreds of millions of euros, Nano-Care Deutschland AG developed Nanoflex F-Bond, a special silicon dioxide backbone based on liquid concentrates which can be applied using conventional industrial dipping methods.

Nano-Care Deutschland AG’s new system achieves the same performance level in washing stability and repellency, offering the most eco-friendly and cost-effective solution for work safety clothing; military clothing; automotive textiles, and medical applications. At the time of writing, the military, work-wear and health sectors have temporary permissions to use C8-PFC ahead of its complete banning, and as such a technological alternative has been characterized as not only a necessity, but also a leap towards achieving ecological sustainability in the textile industry as a whole.

Oliver Sonntag, Nano-Care Deutschland AG

“Our company is proud to have taken the first steps to achieve stain and oil repellency, otherwise known hydrocarbon and chemical repellency, using PFC-free chemicals, in accordance with ZHDC and Greenpeace recommendations. We are continuing with research and development to achieve this goal.”

Nano-Care Deutschland AG will further be offering a version of this new system with room temperature curing and antimicrobial properties.

About Nano-Care Deutschland AG

Following the spin-off from the Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM) in 2000, Nano-Care Deutschland AG developed transparent surface coatings (known as nano or ceramic coatings) as an alternative to PTFE and PFCs. The strategy of reactive innovation pursued from 2016 to 2018 has enabled Nano-Care to become a system supplier to large-scale companies in the textile, automobile and mechanical engineering industries, with partners in over 70 countries.
