Actually experiencing products plays a major role in the apparel industry. Virtual reality offers the textile industry many possibilities – provided a garment is in 3D. “3D is the key to digitization,” says Dr. Andreas Seidl, CEO of the Human Solutions Group. “Today, we can simulate clothing photo-realistically, with absolutely lifelike body dimensions and fabric parameters. The simulation is so good that the collection acceptance can be carried out on the basis of the virtual prototypes.” As a rule, partners who work from different locations and often from other countries are involved in the review of designs. Assyst, a company of the Human Solutions Group, has developed the globally-unique Digital Showroom (VR) together with Zreality GmbH. The VR is a virtual meeting place for all those involved in the development of a collection. Manufacturers, their dealers and suppliers can meet virtually to review sketches and variants, specify the right products and order them right away.

What are the steps involved in a meeting?

Here’s one possible scenario – in the Digital Showroom, a moderator conducts the VR meeting. The participants put on VR glasses and enter a virtual room, where they see a virtual model. The moderator presents the collection and triggers the changing of the outfits. The light changes. The clothing is photo-realistically simulated with Vidya, the lighting effect is real. Just like a face-to-face meeting, questions are asked, alterations are suggested and documented, variants are shown and orders are accepted. The moderator stresses special aspects of his models using a laser pointer. He marks alterations directly on the virtual garment, visible to all. Participants can get very close to the model or walk around it. It’s digital, but it’s real. “The meeting can be moved to an ideal location for the collection world – in the virtual world. Wear recommendations, accessoires, combination possibilities – all this can be reproduced. Even your own showroom can be replicated virtually,” says Dr. Seidl.
