Since 2020, annual gross fixed capital formation in Uzbekistan's textile and apparel industry has exceeded USD 1 b. To facilitate the implementation of projects in the industry, the Uzbek government has adopted numerous incentive measures, including, for example, low-interest credit lines for the production of fabrics, carpets, garments and accessories.

In addition, since 2021, domestic enterprises have been processing the entire domestic volume of cotton fiber. Total production increased to 584,400 tons in 2022 (up from 367,1000 in 2016). This is mainly due to more than 130 newly established cotton textile clusters in the past five years. These also resulted in textiles and garments being Uzbekistan's main exports. Since 2018, exports have increased from USD 1.3 b to USD 3.2 b.

Thanks to a record area, Australia can increase the production of cotton. About 1.2 m tons are expected for the 2022/23 season. This is due to an increased area under cultivation, estimated at 675,000 ha. This is 13% more than last year. Nevertheless, the yield per hectare will fall by 15% to 1,774 kg because the share of cotton grown on fields not additionally irrigated is expected to be higher this season than in the previous year and yields of non-irrigated cotton will be much lower.
